Border Empires
A downloadable game
Border Empires
Border Empires is a multiplayer strategy game that runs in your browser. You start with one tile on a planet shared with up to 50 other players and a handful of AI empires, and you try to end the season owning as much of it as you can.
What you actually do
You grab land. You take towns, because towns are where the bodies for your ancillary army comes from and credits to pay off the galactic loan sharks. You build up your economy, fortify the borders you care about and attack the ones you don’t like. You make alliances, and sometimes you break them.
There are five ways to win. Conquest is the obvious one, but you can also win through economics, resources or diplomacy (vassalage).
It keeps going when you log off
The world doesn’t pause. Seasons last until someone wins, I expect that to happen after 30 days, and things happen while you’re asleep: neighbours expand, alliances shift, someone decides your border looks weak.
I built it this way on purpose. I love 4X games, but I don’t have six hours a night for one anymore. In Border Empires you check in, make a few decisions that matter, and come back later to see how they played out. There are no armies of individual units to babysit. When a war kicks off, though, it gets busy fast.
The setting
You’re a noble from an intergalactic empire that rose up from a collapsed one a long time ago. The feudal society that has risen up entertains itself by turning whole frontier planets into war games, and the emperor has just opened up a planet for contestation...
Let's play
The game is still in active development, and it’s rough in places. If you want to play please join Discord first. I am trying to keep the number or players low until I get everything just right.
